I think it’s safe to say Laneway number one was a resounding success! There were teething problems sure, but as co-founder Danny Rogers stated in his letter of welcome to the festival, “This first year is the beginning and you were here.” Being there was what mattered, for fans and artists alike I’ll venture, resulting in a day filled with some new and magical moments. To describe the performances by Dirty Three, The 3D’s, Chris Knox and the xx you’d need to find adjectives not yet invented, and to be in the heart of the city surrounded by people and lights and skyline while  ‘Beautiful Things’ plays in the background… well, I’ll just say that for the first time in a while it felt really good to be from here. Ich bin ein Aucklander!
