NZ Music on Twitter

Having been using Twitter for a while now, and followed a bunch of great New Zealand Music people, we thought it was time to assemble them into one long-list for those new to the service to get familiar with their fave artists and other people from the music area, and those already there to see who they're missing.

The Salon Design Tech has its own list, and it's pretty good, but we wanted to try and divide it up a little genre-wise (though obviously the location of some of these people/artists are debtable, it's more so the list stops being overwhelming), and separate the industry from the artists. Just have it make sense.

If there are people you feel we've missed that deserve a spot put them in the comments and we might add them, but bear in mind there are some we've left off because they're just not our kind of thing. Also, a little contradictorily, some on here aren't our kind of thing, but it can be fun to follow yr enemies. ALSO some of these people 'protect' their tweets, so you might have to apply to follow them. Anyway, here's the list!

I know y'all don't think much of little Christchurch, but you could have made more of an effort: http://twitter.com/rdu985fm http://twitter.com/starliftertv http://twitter.com/edmuzik http://twitter.com/lawrencearabia http://twitter.com/vonklap http://twitter.com/redpanda_nz http://twitter.com/chchmusic http://twitter.com/modulenz

@Edmuzik I can't tell whether you're being serious... Have Scribe, Bang Bang Eche, Bic & Boh Runga, Pinacolada Records, Nathan King and Record Co Guy. Inadvertently left off Lawrence, but seriously, you see an anti Christchurch bias in a magazine which as awarded album of the month to Pig out and Tiger Tones in the past three years? Seriously. Will add some of those, but no need to be so sniffy about it, cuz we LOVE Christchurch music round here.

No need to be overly defensive either ... tongue was firmly in cheek. Where it usually is. I would like to state, for the record, that I wasn't accusing you or your magazine of anti-Chrsitchurch bias, just had some suggestions. Although without getting flamewarry, the examples you listed in your comment maybe weren't the most apt. Bic/Boh/Nathan haven't had much to do with chch for the best part of a decade, Bang Bang Eche haven't actually used their account, they are just sitting on the name.

I'll just complete the climbdown then. Damn internet and its complete inability to communicate tone! But yeah, those guys are a little removed now. I guess it just so happens that some of the most prominent RG-centric (and avowedly of the city) chch musicians of the past few years (Shocking Pinks, Pig Out, Tiger Tones) aren't on twitter. But also The Enright House and Jay Roacher are from your town. I'm gonna say we did OK.

you could have made mention of all the drumnbassndubstep we produce, and the associated hate crimes, or maybe hayley westenra / yulia and all the freaky old men who follow them. not trying to pigeon hole my own city or anything. http://twitter.com/HayleyWestenra ("I'm a bit mad, but I'm cool with that." Yeah, um, see Yulia if you wanna know about mad) It seems Glyn Mclean hasn't managed to set up Yulia's twitter yet, but YOU KNOW that will be one to follow when he finds out how
