Screens debuts in
the big charts today at number 10, meaning
Mint Chicks, a band which used to play three shows a night at some of the most unlikely venues in the city has officially become a part of the fabric of mainstream New Zealand.
To celebrate we're giving you guys the opportunity to download Telephone for free, for one week only.
The song is highly-strung and nervy, the narrator desperately seeking approval only to be greeted with hostile indifference, and the music reflects this anxiety, all descending chords and fidgety tension.
Despite all this the pop heart of
Screens beats hard, with a chorus you can imagine being screamed back at the band, and the whole thing does its business and gets out in under two minutes, before you've even had time to assess its implications.
Telephone takes its place alongside other great songs of telecommunications, a few of which I'll post below.
In the mean time, once you've downloaded the song and had it rattle your brains,
go buy the damn album. You won't regret it.
