You could be forgiven for not knowing who dub/roots/reggae/DnB band Six60 were until today. But similar to what The Naked and Famous did three months ago (but obv. not quite as successfully executed), the band make a huge debut, coming in at number five on the singles chart. Unlike TNAF whose success could be explained through a ridiculously infectious track and increased... More >

And just like that, Katy Perry has her second consecutive number one single with Teenage Dream. It's perfect timing considering that her album of the same name came out on Monday and unless something else gets in the way (Disturbed, I'm looking at you), she should also have the number one album come this time next week. But this week is all about what's happening locally;... More >

The big three (Dynamite, Love The Way You Lie, Teenage Dream) sit firmly at the top this week, readjusting slightly, but not allowing any space for Flo Rida and David Guetta to crawl ahead. Dynamite finds itself at number one for the second week in a row while Teenage Dream moves in for the kill as it inches up to number two. I'm fully convinced that the song will be number... More >

It's pretty fucked up that Taio Cruz has the number one song in the country, but I suppose that's the way this thing works. After seven weeks on the singles chart, Cruz hops into the top position cutting down Eminem and Rihanna's four-week run at the top. Despite (or maybe because of) his similarity to fellow popstar Jason DeRulo, it's taken awhile for Cruz to catch on in... More >

"It's not the most elegant way to put it, but Brooke Fraser feels like she's been constipated for four long years." And so we were reintroduced to New Zealand's favourite Christian songwriting lass by the NZ Herald last week. Like it says, it's not the most graceful way for an artist to get their point across (especially one like Fraser who also admitted in the article that... More >

A box-fresh issue of Real Groove is on the street next Monday with The Naked And Famous on the cover. In this sidebar from the cover story, Hussein Moses checks in with Special Problems about their creative partnership with The Naked And Famous and other artists. The last time Real Groove checked in with Campbell Hooper and Joel Kefali, better known as Special Problems,... More >

As much as I hate to admit it, next week will probably see We Speak No Americano claim the top spot on the singles chart. This week it's sitting tight at number two but I'm predicting that Eminem's popularity will begin to wind back a little now that's he's spent a few weeks at number one. There's some other big things happening in the chart this week as well and it looks... More >

Eminem is still that guy. As it stands he has the number one single in the country with Love The Way You Lie and this week sees Recovery spends its fifth week at number one. Bieber can't stop him. Glee can't stop him. John Denver (who's best of album jumps nine spots to number four this week) can't stop him either. And you know what? This is a good thing since it's slowing... More >

It's taken four weeks for it to happen, but Eminem and Rihanna are now sitting at number one on the singles chart. Love The Way You Lie moves up from number two this week to take over from California Gurls, while on the albums chart Eminem also holds strong at number one with Recovery. It was easy to see this coming though; Love The Way You Lie is a smash, and it was obvious... More >

I have no idea how We Speak No Americano managed to re-enter the charts at number four this week. The Yolanda Be Cool and DCUP track is classic cheesy niche music that every now and then we fall for and right now it's bordering on Mambo #5 levels of painfulness. The track is pretty straightforward too and it sounds like it threw together the Renato Carosone sample and the... More >
